Many of us have been feeling the need to be lifted up in these challenging times, to develop more skill in communication, insight and understanding, and perhaps experience encouragement to enact and share stories of goodness.  The many wonderful stories that have been circulating about Individuals selflessly helping and rescuing others during the blizzard are heartwarming and positive.

Power of Goodness events are interactive workshops organized around a theme and a story, led by Alternative to Violence Project (AVP) facilitators and apprentice facilitators.

Our theme will be Equality of Humanity - We will read a story,  Mercy, A Poet’s Memory, about Russian women seeing the defeated German soldiers captured and marched through the streets after World War II. We will discuss the turning points in the story and ask: When have you overcome your prejudices or fears to reach out to help someone? Who do you feel or are told is your enemy, and what’s one thing you can do to reach out to them?  We will practice empathy and play a cooperative game or two. Finally, we will close with a reflection on any insights gained for us as a people or a culture or for our community. Peace is possible when we see the humanity in everyone!

Activities include stopping, gathering, reading a story, small group discussion about key points in a story and how we experience that in our lives, whole group discussion of the implications for us as a people or culture, a game, an activity, reflection, and closing.

Please bring a dish to share.
